Travel Tips

What Not to Wear: On Your Next Flight

This is the TSA Edition

When it comes to passing security, clothing can slow you down.

Some accessories sound alarms; others merely look suspicious. To ensure smooth travels through Transportation Security Administration airport screening lanes, consider nixing these from your travel outfit.

Loose Dresses, Skirts and Shirts

This includes maxi dresses and skirts. They’re dang comfortable and look pretty classy, but … What are you hiding under there?

Bulky Pullovers

Jackets and bulky pullovers are one and the same to TSA agents. You’ll either have to remove them, or be patted down.

Bobby Pins

A few bobby pins tucking your hair in place is OK, but too many could set off the metal detector. If you want to maintain your hair and skip the pat-down, fix your up-do after screening.

Cargo Pants or Shorts

TSA is serious about removing all items from your pockets—and if you’ve got a million of them, you’re bound to forget something.

Metal Bracelets and Necklaces

Metal jewelry sets off the metal detector. As with bobby pins, consider putting jewelry on after screening.

Belts

Passengers often forget to take belts off before passing through the metal detector. Either remove it right away, or wear pants that don’t require the accessory.

Shoes That Are Difficult to Remove

Removing shoes to pass airport security has been standard procedure for years. Footwear with a lot of laces takes forever to get off and put back on.

Offensive Clothing

Wearing clothing with offensive messages or pictures could even get you kicked off a plane.

Travel Tip: How To Say “Please” And “Thank You” In Six Different Languages

Because a little courtesy can go a long way.

While traveling abroad I have found by making an effort to learn some key words and phrases, it can open the door to a smile.

It also shows kindness and courtesy. Take a few moments to say and correctly pronounce “Please” and “Thank You.”  There are Apps and YouTube Video’s that can be helpful resources to consider before your next trip.

Thank You: merci (mare-SEE)

ITALIAN

Thank You: grazie (graht-ZEE-EH)

JAPANESE

Thank You: arigato (ah-REE-gah-toe)

Spanish

3 Mistakes I Made While Traveling – That I Want You To Avoid

Shocked Woman1. Not packing an extra bag

Have you ever been on a trip or vacation and enjoyed shopping

but wondered how is this going to fit in my already packed suitcase?

SOLUTION:

Bring along a medium to large tote that folds up and is expandable

2. Not realizing your photo ID was about to expire

Is your passport up to date?

I almost was denied boarding to my flight to New York. My drivers license was going to expire while I was on the trip. The gate agent gave me grace and allowed me to travel but with a stern warning that I may encounter problems on my return flight.

SOLUTION:

Check your Drivers license and or passport expiration dates before you travel

3. Time crunch – late for flight

Have you ever rushed to get to the airport,  your palms are sweating and your stress level is through the roof. The lines at TSA security are long and twisting,  around and around.  Will you make your flight?

This has been my situation on occasion.

SOLUTION:

In view of the recent TSA issues, arrive at the airport 2-3 hours early. Keep in mind traffic, weather, time of year and conditions at your airport as you prepare for your departure.

Happy Travels!

The Love and Passion of Italy

Great Roman Empire - conceptual collage in retro style

Last year,  I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Italy for business.

It was a taste of Italy which was just not enough, I am ready to return and discover so much more.  I had the pleasure of interviewing Laura Massoni on Blab recently. Laura shared “Things You Should Know When Traveling to Italy.”  She shared some essential tips to prepare you for your next trip.

Highlights from my Italy experience:

This not a winery, guess what is grown here?

Have you ever wondered how Parmesan Cheese was made? I have a new found respect for this food and the many ways it is used to enhance a dish. Consider this tour on your trip to Italy.
